Should you decide to apply for health coverage through Maryland Health Connection, the information you supply in your application will be used to determine whether you are eligible for health and dental coverage offered through Maryland Health Connection and for insurance affordability programs. It also may be used to assist you in making a payment for the insurance plan you select, and for related automated reminders or other activities permitted by law.  We will preserve the privacy of personal records and protect confidential or privileged information in full accordance with federal and State law. We will not sell your information to others.  Any information that you provide to us in your application will be used only to carry out the functions of Maryland Health Connection. The only exception to this policy is that we may share information provided in your application with the appropriate authorities for law enforcement and audit activities. 

You may login to your account at Maryland Health Connection, www.marylandhealthconnection.gov, at any time to access and obtain your information.  You may update your information at any time.  If you need assistance updating your information or have a concern about your information, you may contact the Consumer Support Center for assistance at our toll free numbers: 1-855-642-8572, or 1-855-642-8573 for the hearing impaired.

Any person who knowingly and willfully uses or discloses information in violation of section 1411(g) of the Affordable Care Act is subject to a civil penalty of up to $25,000 per person or entity, per use or disclosure, in addition to other penalties that may be prescribed bylaw.

In addition to applying through the website, you may apply in-person, over the phone, or through the mail. If you apply for coverage using one of these alternative means, you may be required to provide paper copies of documents to verify your application information.

FAIR CREDIT REPORTING ACT (FCRA)

To protect your privacy, you will need to complete Identity Verification successfully, before requesting access to the selected role. Below are a few items to keep in mind.

• Ensure that you have entered your legal name, current home address, primary phone number, date of birth and email address correctly. We will only collect personal information to verify your identity with Experian, an external identity verification provider.

• Identity Verification involves Experian using information from your consumer report profile to help confirm your identity. As a result, you may see an entry called a “soft inquiry” on your Experian consumer report. Soft inquiries are only visible to you, will never be presented to third parties, and do not affect your credit score. The soft inquiry will be titled “CMS Proofing Services” and will be removed from your Experian consumer report after 25 months.

• You may need to have access to your personal and consumer report information, as the Experian application will pose questions to you, based on data in their files. For additional information, please see the Experian Consumer Assistance website - http://www.experian.com/help/.
